O-SEAN LED acrylic coaster

A confession first: I never quite believed in coasters. Aren't they the number one merch item to lose all presence the moment a cup lands on top? The kind that goes straight into a drawer on arrival and only resurfaces around moving day with a "why is this here?"

Then we heard this coaster was a little different. The light comes up from below. The acrylic plate takes full-color printing, and the LED inside the base pushes that print upward with light. 10×10cm, 4mm thick. In your hand it's just a clear plate, but the moment you flip the switch, the story changes. Or so we were told.

So the lab tried it ourselves. We turned off the office lights, set cups on it, added logos, and put just about everything on top. We set three experiment items: a light-up drink stand, custom event merch, and booth props. It seemed like a heavy workload for one coaster, but what do you know. Spoiler: it escaped the drawer, and with room to spare.

Experiment 1. On the party table, as a light-up drink stand

Place a clear cup on top and the light spreads into the cup

The first experiment was the most orthodox use: a drink coaster. Except it can't be just any cup. It has to be a clear one. That's the point.

We placed a clear dessert cup on top, and the light climbed up the lower half until the whole cup sparkled with it. Jelly or layered drinks make the effect even more fun. The color of the contents and the artwork printed on the coaster tie together into a single scene. Put a year-end party dessert or a welcome drink in your brand color on top, and the table becomes its own photo zone.

The darker the room, the crisper the glow

We also confirmed firsthand that the darker the space, the sharper the effect. Under fluorescent light you get an "oh, that's pretty." Dim the room and you get a "where did you buy that?" For an evening event or an indoor pop-up, this thing would really earn its keep.

We compared drinks by color too. Clear, light drinks have a definite edge over dark ones, since the light has to pass through. Sparkling water with a single line of syrup was the prettiest by lab standards. There's a quiet joy in finding the right combination, so we recommend a drink rehearsal before the event.

One lab note. If you plan to place cups with water on them, ask about the waterproofing and cleaning specs first. It is an electronic product, after all. We wiped down every wet cup as we went.

Experiment 2. We added names: custom merch for birthdays and events

Full-color printing carries names, logos, and messages as they are

The second experiment was about printing. This coaster's real weapon is actually the full-color printing, more than the light. The 10×10cm face takes unlimited colors: gradient logos, photos, characters.

So we printed "OO's birthday": a name, a date, a congratulatory message. Turn on the light and the message comes alive with it. This moment feels almost unfair. Same message, but the light alone turns a "print job" into an "event prop."

One at every seat, and a favor to take home

We tried a corporate event version too. We put the company logo and event date on it and laid one at every guest seat. Let everyone take one home after the event, and it becomes a favor. And this favor doesn't get thrown away. People take it home and switch it on again. A favor the recipient turns back on isn't exactly common, is it?

If it's going out as a gift, the packaging is covered too. There's an option to brand the whole package with a box or a sleeve, so the brand experience starts before the coaster even comes out. From what we handled, this option earns its cost when you want to design all the way to the unboxing moment, like limited-run merch or a VIP gift set.

Experiment 3. We put things other than cups on it: booth signage and place cards

The third experiment went a little sideways. We briefly forgot its identity as a drink coaster and put anything on it.

We placed a business card on it. It becomes a glowing card stand. Nothing steals glances like this on a booth table. We set a QR sign on top and passersby looked twice. It reconfirmed that the human eye is weak against light.

Print your brand graphics and set it out as is, and it carries over to place cards and table signs. In our tests it does the job perfectly well lying flat, but if you want a fully upright format, you can settle the stand mechanism and shape together at the design-proof stage.

One booth-operation tip to add: this base shows its true worth from late afternoon rather than midday. Time the light to when the venue dims, and your table brightness alone sets you apart from the next booth. One prop making the whole booth look put together: we were skeptical too, until we tried it.

Experiment results, in summary

Our conclusion after three experiments: this thing is less a coaster than "the smallest lighting merch." Put a cup on it and it's a stand; add a name and it's an event prop; place a sign and it's booth equipment. One item working three jobs. When the merch budget is fixed but the use cases multiply, the approval memo gets that much easier for the person in charge.

Let's run the spec. Acrylic, 10×10×0.4cm, full-color printing, LED glow. Production starts at 30 units, and lead time is about 2 weeks after order confirmation. The price is 10,000 KRW per unit (VAT excluded). For details like the power type and light duration, one inquiry gets you an answer right away.

The production process had its reassuring side too. Reorders in the same design are reproduced with matched colors and printing, so if the event goes well and you move to a second run, the tone doesn't drift. A quote PDF for internal approval, organized by per-quantity pricing, is sent right over. It's a setup that makes sign-off easy for the person in charge.

On the flip side, if a daytime outdoor event is your main stage, the glow can get washed out, and another merch item may serve you better. The lab plays it straight.

The light adjusts across 3 levels. Keep it low and it works like a mood light; push it to the brightest level and it catches the eye from a distance. A single photo can't really convey how the light changes, so see it switch on for real in the video below.
