📮 O-SEAN GOODS LETTER · First letter of September

🎪 Farewell, everyone~
I'm off to see 21 pop-ups this September 🍂

2026.09

September starts today. The autumn rain seems to have come out to greet the new season, and the air feels noticeably cooler. September is also the month when pop-ups pile up. More than thirty open this month alone, and we picked out the ones with a merch approach worth a closer look.

So in this letter we walk through three pop-ups one by one, then sum up three merch trends showing across September's pop-ups. We also picked four merch items that only need your logo. (The 10 pop-ups that will draw the biggest crowds this month are in the Merch Calendar section below 🍂)

This letter is for you if...

You're in charge of H2 promotions and still haven't picked the items
You want merch ideas from September's pop-ups
You'd like to sort out year-end event volumes in one go

Pop-ups of the Month

Stuck for merch ideas? Let's start with three September pop-ups.

We picked three. Each uses its IP or character on products in a different way, so seen side by side they show approaches you can borrow for your own merch.

① Nongshim x Olive Young x Sanrio: collectible value, built into the package

Two new Nongshim products: Chicken Drumstick Nuggets Yangnyeom Chicken flavor and Potato Chips Sweet Corn flavor in Hello Kitty packaging

It runs all September long at Olive Young Central Myeongdong Town (Olive Young is Korea's biggest beauty retailer). Ten Nongshim snacks come together in one place: two new products plus four Bbang Bujang, two Chicken Drumstick, and two Potato Chips varieties. The two new products are Chicken Drumstick Nuggets in Yangnyeom Chicken flavor, inspired by Suwon's famous fried chicken, and Potato Chips in Sweet Corn flavor, made with Gangwon-do corn.

The package is the thing to watch. Hello Kitty on the new-product bags gives the bag itself collectible value. They simply added a character to a product they were already making. It's a move you can use right away when there's no budget for a separate item.

② Inuyasha Pop-up Store: a line of dialogue in the product name

It runs September 1 to 22 at AK Plaza Hongdae and Suwon. The first six days are reservation-only entry; from the 7th you can just walk in. The lineup includes mouse pads and desk mats, acrylic stands, Shikon Jewel keyrings, and a large tapestry.

The fun part here is the naming. The mouse pad carries a line straight from the series: "Farewell, everyone~" (a fan-favorite quote from the character Kagome). The product is a mouse pad you could buy anywhere, but that one name gives fans a reason to buy it. For your brand, try putting an internal slogan or a project name into the item name.

③ Pokémon GO Pikachu's Autumn Picnic: a character dressed for the region

It runs September 18 to October 11 across Seoul's Jongno-gu and Jung-gu districts. The star of this event is Pikachu in an orange hanbok (traditional Korean dress). It's the first time this look has appeared in Korea.

They didn't create a new character; they just changed an existing character's outfit, and it became a limited edition. If your brand has a mascot, try swapping only the colors and outfit to match the season or the event. It looks like a new product without a new mold or a new design.

On the Ground

How are pop-ups changing these days?

The field always moves faster than the reports. Looking across the pop-ups opening in September, three things kept showing up.

Official key visual for Mallang Festa Encore IN Yangjae

(Official key visual for Mallang Festa Encore IN Yangjae · ⓒBe My Object · organized by Messe Esang)

First, paid entry has become the norm. Mallang Festa Encore, a character and plush fair at the aT Center in Yangjae from September 4 to 6, charges KRW 5,000 for advance tickets and KRW 10,000 at the door. 'Page to Pages' by 29CM and LOFT, in Seongsu from September 2 to 6, requires a KRW 2,900 advance ticket, with no on-site sales at all.

Visitors pay to get in, then buy merch on top of that. In other words, merch has become content worth an admission fee. For your brand, try planning giveaways not as something tossed into the event, but as products that are a reason to visit.

Second, IPs are shown as a bundle. Jump Shop, running September 23 to October 6 at Shinsegae Gangnam Central, brings together One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Haikyu!!, Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter x Hunter, and more. The official announcement post alone has about 17,000 likes. Instead of betting on a single IP, they bundled whole universes to give people a bigger reason to visit. For your brand, rather than making separate merch for each product line, grouping them into one series and showing them all at once gets a bigger response.

Third, stationery is popular again. 'Page to Pages' features 39 stationery brands from Korea and Japan. A similar event last year drew about 25,000 visitors over five days. Low-pressure items like notebooks and pens have become the centerpiece of a pop-up. For your brand, it may be worth putting notebook and pen promotional items back on the shortlist if you'd shelved them for their low unit price.

Items of the Month

Everyone's taste is different. What can you pick that won't miss?

For event gifts, the safe choice is something that doesn't depend on taste. We picked four items people actually use, where the logo sits naturally.

Golf ball set with an engraved logo Golf ball set package contents

(Golf ball set with a logo · produced by O-SEAN)

First, the golf ball set. A long-standing classic for executive and client gifts. It comes out every round, so the logo keeps catching the eye.

Color-changing mug that shifts with temperature Color-changing mug, styled shot

(Color-changing mug that shifts with temperature · produced by O-SEAN)

Second, the color-changing mug. Its color shifts with temperature. It gets a reaction the moment it's received, which makes it a good fit for high-quantity occasions like employee group gifts.

Golf umbrella with a printed logo Close-up of the golf umbrella fabric

(Golf umbrella with a logo · produced by O-SEAN)

Third, the golf umbrella. Big and sturdy, so it actually gets used. It's the item people reach for every rainy day.

Towel with a logo Set of two towels with an embroidered logo

(Towel with a logo · produced by O-SEAN)

Fourth, the logo towel. With its low unit price, it's known as the go-to for large-scale distribution.

Searches for fall and winter items start climbing fast from now on. Blankets and desk calendars are the classic examples. If you lock in blanket or calendar quantities while you're setting this round's volumes, you won't have to go through it twice. Starting with the items that go out most as group gifts, like mugs and bottles, makes choosing easier.

If you can only visit a couple, where should you go first in September?

To make choosing easier, we ranked a TOP 10 by monthly search volume over the last 30 days, using the Naver Search Ads Keyword Tool (Naver is Korea's leading search engine). Data pulled on August 31, 2026.

- Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint x Animate Cafe runs September 2 to October 13 at Animate Cafe Hongdae and Busan. To buy the limited items you need to order a drink or dessert from the menu too. Selling merch bundled with a menu item is a format worth carrying over to your own event booth.

- n.SSign N:DVERSE GARDENING, a pop-up for the K-pop group n.SSign, runs September 3 to 13 at Lotte World Mall in Jamsil. The Balvenie x Daniel Arsham collaboration cask

- The Balvenie x Daniel Arsham 'Dawn of Our Spirit' opens to the public September 2 to 6 at S50 in Seongsu (the 1st is an invitation-only event). It's an exhibition-style pop-up showing a limited-edition whisky collection alongside Daniel Arsham's artwork, with entry by advance reservation on Catchtable (a Korean restaurant booking app). Seoul is the first city on its global tour, followed by Shanghai·Taipei·New York·Miami.

Official poster for Spotify House Seoul

(Official poster for Spotify House Seoul · ⓒSpotify)

- Spotify House Seoul runs September 10 to 13 at Anderson C in Seongsu. From the 10th to the 12th, the days are split by genre into electronic·K-pop, indie rock, and hip-hop, with Diplo, RIIZE, Jannabi, and Dynamic Duo taking the stage. It's Spotify's largest pop-up in Korea to date, combining live shows with exhibitions and fan experiences.

There are more worth a look outside the search rankings. We rounded up the remaining 11 pop-ups not listed above.

If you do go, look at it through a buyer's eyes. Which merch sits by the register, and which items have a line forming in front of them. Check just a couple of places and your shortlist for your own event starts to take shape.

The O-SEAN editor has booked a spot at the Inuyasha Pop-up Store this time, too. So excited to see all that merch! We'll be back with a fresh report afterward!

Got the ideas,
