📮 O-SEAN GOODS LETTER · Second letter of August
📸 A keyring that takes photos?

That box of leftover event merch, is it still sitting in your storage room? Handing it out felt great at the time, we know. So this month we picked just one item: a mini camera keyring people carry every day. We also brought back notes from the Home Digging Fair at COEX last weekend, so read on to the end!

It's a camera-shaped keyring that fits right in your palm. From the lens to the body, it's a real camera shrunk down. Clip it on a bag and people read it as a camera from across the room. Getting noticed is half of what merch is for, after all.

The key is that it gets clipped on the moment it's received. It comes with a ring, so there's nothing to tuck away; it goes straight onto the bag right there. That means it doesn't get forgotten after the handout, and because it stays within arm's reach every day, your brand gets seen every day too. The logo is printed on the camera body. The surface isn't large, so the right placement depends on your logo's shape and number of colors. We'll work out which option looks better together at the design proof stage. The standard run starts at 1,000 pieces, but reach out if you need fewer and we'll make it work.

Color, logo, and tagline all shift to match your brand's mood. Same product, and yet it changes this much. Beauty, running, travel: brands of all kinds can make this their own. Just lay your design on top in the mood you want.
If you have an IP or mascot, it goes right onto the camera body as is. It bundles nicely into a limited seasonal edition or fan event merch. Even with a small character, the shape of the object itself is unusual enough to catch the eye.

The SD card is an optional add-on. With it in, the keyring snaps photos on the go and saves them with a retro, lo-fi look. Instead of merch that ends the moment it's handed out, it becomes merch where the recipient's memories keep piling up. That said, it's perfectly fine to skip the option. Even as a plain keyring it's plenty stylish and kitschy. It's not something you see every day, so the first thing people say when they get one is "What is this?" So it works in two ways. As idol merch, the unusual form makes it something fans actually want to own, and with the camera option added it becomes a way to capture fan meetings and concerts on the spot. Used for brand promotion, it ends up as a keepsake rather than a promotional item. It's on a different path from day one than the things that pile up in the storage-room merch box once the event is over.

Last weekend we visited the Home Digging Fair at COEX. It was the first event held by Lifezip, a community for home enthusiasts, and it brought 68 lifestyle brands together in a single hall. Tickets were in the KRW 10,000 range, and the crowds still kept coming all weekend. The core idea was splitting the venue into five houses. 'Rest' for your own routine, 'Creation' for whatever you imagine, 'Connection' for the people around you, 'Collecting' for going deep on your tastes, and 'Exploration' for being out in nature. The concept was that you're not a visitor, you're a resident moving into each house. The way they used merch stood out most. Each house handed out a bucket list, and completing the missions earned you a badge. The merch wasn't a keepsake; it was the mechanism that got people through all five houses.
That's also why we picked the keyring above as this month's item. Does it end up hanging on a bag, or not? That's the point that matters.
